Brick walls of house with salt damage, to Chapel Hill home, a Western suburb of Brisbane.
Salt damage to brick walls. Identified by Peter Weddell owner/operator of Qld Home Buyers Inspection Service.
Above photo shows significant deterioration to bricks of an external wall from rising damp and salts in the soil.
Significant damage to bricks to external walls of this house above the damp-course barriers.
Cause:
Inadequate damp-course barrier that should have extended flush with the brick face, during construction of the house.
Rectification:
- Support the brick walls, removing bricks, fitting of physical damp-course barriers then relaying the bricks. Highly effective but labour intensive and costly.
- Drilling and injecting chemical damp-course barriers into the brick walls.
