Bathroom leak causing rot to particleboard, Important points:
- These examples show why it is not good building practice to use particleboard as flooring below wet areas.
- Unfortunately the use of particleboard is commonplace, but in my opinion, its use below wet areas should be outlawed.
- Any type of timber will rot over time from leaking. Particle-board flooring will rot more rapidly than timber. Timber is less likely to require replacing, if leaking has been identified at an early stage.
- Compressed fibro sheeting (not containing Asbestos) is a far more suitable and long term durable product that will not rot!
This post will hopefully help educate people into considering using a more suitable product, in their construction or renovation of a bathroom, ensuite, toilet, laundry.
